GBHSS Mantrigam Conducts Model Elections for Student Leadership Posts

  • Bandipora, May 10: Government Boys Higher Secondary School Mantrigam successfully conducted student elections for various posts, providing students with practical exposure to the democratic process and the importance of exercising their right to vote.

The school campus witnessed an atmosphere of enthusiasm and excitement as students from Classes 9th to 12th actively participated in the election process, which had begun nearly a month in advance.

Nomination forms were issued beforehand, and seven candidates contested for the post of School Secretary.

A total of 610 students were listed on the electoral roll, and six ballot boxes were used to facilitate voting. Students cast their votes one by one and were marked with indelible ink on their fingers as a sign of participation.

To ensure a fair and transparent election, 18 teachers were assigned various responsibilities, including Presiding Officers, polling Officers and counting staff.

The entire process was managed meticulously by the school administration.

Iftikhar Rashid served as the Chief Election Commissioner, while Qufail Ahmad Wani acted as Election Commissioner.

Twenty NCC cadets, under the supervision of Associate NCC Officer Qufail Ahmad, maintained security and law and order during polling.

The sports wing, led by Tanveer Saleem and Saleem Yousuf, extended full support, while non-teaching staff also played an important role in the smooth conduct of the elections.

Principal Mohammad Iqbal Magray appreciated the collective efforts of the staff and said such activities help inculcate democratic values, leadership qualities and a sense of responsibility among students.

In the final results, Furkan Ahmad of Class 12th was elected as School Secretary after securing 115 votes. Anjum Bashir, a Class 10th student, was elected Deputy Secretary with 92 votes out of 470 votes polled.

The event concluded with an oath-taking ceremony during which Principal Mohammad Iqbal Magray administered the oath of office to the newly elected Secretary and Deputy Secretary.

He briefed them about their roles and responsibilities and said they would work under the close supervision of the school administration.
