Hajin, September 12: The fifth death anniversary of noted Kashmiri writer, critic and language activist Dr Aziz Hajini was observed at PM Shri Government Middle School, Gulshan Abad, Hajin, with a literary gathering and quiz competition aimed at connecting students with Kashmiri language and literature.
The programme was organised by the Wahab Cultural Society, Hajin, in collaboration with the Department of School Education, Bandipora.
Chief Education Officer Bandipora attended the event as chief guest. Chief Patron of the Wahab Cultural Society Nazir Ahmad, ZEO Hajin, President Halqa-e-Adab Sonawari Shakir Shafi, Dr Riyaz-ul-Hassan, Majeed Majazi, Mir Bashir Ahmad and other educationists, literary figures and members of civil society were also present.
On the occasion, speakers recalled Dr Hajini’s contribution to Kashmiri language, literature and education and highlighted his association with several literary and educational institutions.
He had served as Secretary of the J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages and was also associated with Adbi Markaz Kamraz and other academic and literary bodies.
The main attraction of the programme was the Dr Aziz Hajini Grand Quiz Competition, in which students from five schools of Hajin participated. The quiz was conducted by Majeed Majazi, General Secretary of the Wahab Cultural Society.
Middle School Shahigund and Middle School Gulshan Abad shared the first position, while Middle School Parray Mohallah secured second place. Middle School Balshibal finished third.
The winners were presented prizes by the Wahab Cultural Society in recognition of their performance. Organisers said the competition was aimed at promoting literary awareness, general knowledge and intellectual engagement among school students.
Speakers said programmes focused on Dr Hajini’s work could help introduce younger generations to Kashmiri literature and encourage greater interest in the language and cultural heritage of the region.
The programme concluded with a call to continue initiatives that promote Kashmiri language, literature and cultural awareness among students.
