Bandipora, September 12: The four-day 16th District Bandipora Badminton Championship concluded at the Indoor Hall, Police Lines Bandipora, with around 150 players competing across different age and senior categories.
Organised by the Bandipora Badminton Association in collaboration with the Badminton Association of J&K under the aegis of the J&K Sports Council, the championship was held from September 8 to 11. Players from across Bandipora participated in Under-11, Under-15, Under-17, Under-19 and senior boys, girls, men and women categories.
The closing ceremony was presided over by Senior Superintendent of Police Bandipora Aijaz Zargar (JKPS). Bharat Bhushan, 2IC, CRPF 3rd Battalion Bandipora, attended as the guest of honour, along with Senior Vice President Ishfaq Ahmad Mir and General Secretary Mudasir Ahmad Mir of the association.
In the Senior Men’s final, Firdous Ahmad Mir defeated Pz Shoib 2-1. Syeda Zehra won the Senior Women’s final against Urba in straight sets. In the Under-19 category, Salman Nazir defeated Mohsin Ali 2-1.
Zubair Zahoor won the Under-15 Boys category against Eizhan Aijaz, while Sakshi Kumari defeated Aaliya Khan in the Under-15 Girls category. In the Under-11 Boys final, Azim Shafi defeated Suhaib, while Toluah Bashir defeated Aksa Irshad in the Under-11 Girls category.
In the Men’s Doubles final, Firdous Ahmad and Salman Nazir defeated Aqib Hussain and Basharat Hussain Dar in straight sets.
Firdous Ahmad Mir was declared the overall champion of the tournament.
The final day also featured a felicitation ceremony during which escort teachers and top-performing players were presented trophies and certificates.
Officials for the championship included Aqib Hussain, Salman Nazir, Zubair Zahoor and Adnan Altaf. The association said the tournament provided players with competitive experience and that top performers would represent District Bandipora Badminton Association in the forthcoming state championship.
