Comedy of Errors: Typo-filled Preamble on Bandipora Secretariat Wall Draws Criticism

Srinagar, Dec 17: Bandipora district administration had to cut a sorry figure on social media after a wall-painted version of the Preamble to the Indian Constitution at the Mini Secretariat contained several typographical errors and missing ideals- “Socialist” and “Secular,” both integral to the Preamble itself.
The display, located near the office of the Deputy Commissioner, drew attention after a local youth, Owais Khursheed, flagged the errors on social media and demanded an immediate correction.
The display reveals spelling errors, format errors, and missing words in what is considered to be the birth announcement of the Indian Republic itself,.
Social media users mocked at the administration for the callous attitude of the administration. “Officers walk around daily and none of them identified the mistake to rectify it,” said a netizen.
“While such displays have no official legal standing, inaccuracies in the public reproduction of the Constitution on government premises are unacceptable,” a lawyer told Kashmir Convener.
“The Preamble is not mere ornamentation. Anything reproduced within government property must carry the stipulated constitutional text,” Owais said. The weathered artwork is located at a highly trafficked part of the Mini Secretariat.
The officials from the district administration could not be reached for a comment on when the artwork was done and whether measures would be taken.
