Avalanche Hits Vehicles at Shaitan Nallah, No Casualties Reported

GANDERBAL, APRIL 25: An avalanche struck several vehicles at Shaitan Nallah along the Zoji La on Saturday, triggering panic among commuters, officials said, adding that no casualties or injuries have been reported.
According to authorities, the avalanche hit a vulnerable stretch near Shaitan Nallah, impacting vehicles travelling on the Srinagar–Leh highway. Rescue teams comprising personnel from the local administration, Jammu and Kashmir Police and road maintenance agencies were rushed to the site shortly after the incident.
Officials said efforts are underway to evacuate stranded passengers and clear snow and debris from the road to restore traffic movement. All occupants of the affected vehicles were reported safe.
Authorities have issued an advisory asking commuters to avoid unnecessary travel on the highway until weather conditions improve and the route is declared safe.
The Srinagar–Leh highway, particularly around Zojila, is prone to avalanches during periods of unstable weather, often leading to temporary disruptions in traffic.
Further details were awaited as rescue and clearance operations continued.
