Srinagar, Aug 27: Television actress Hina Khan on Thursday visited Army-run educational institutions in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district and praised the infrastructure, terming the schools as a model for the region.
The actress, who is currently holidaying in the Valley, visited the ‘Parivaar’ school run by the Indian Army and later the Army Goodwill School in Boniyar near the Line of Control (LoC). She interacted with students during the visit and commended the facilities provided by the defence establishment.
“I was very happy to meet the students here and see their confidence level. I got to know a lot about the school infrastructure and how confident and intelligent the students are,” Khan told reporters as per Kashmir Convener after the visit.
The television star noted that the students had a clear vision about their future.
“The students are very clear about what they want in life. Some want to do engineering, some want to become doctors. I loved the confidence and the way they are treated here,” she said.
Hina Khan credited the defence forces for providing quality education in the border region at subsidised rates.
“Everything is subsidised, and I think the credit goes to the defence forces. The way they have planned so many schools in such small areas. In fact, I was telling them to do something like this in the main city so that children can get such good education with such good teachers,” she added.
The actress also highlighted the long-term association of students with these institutions.
“When I asked the kids how long they have been in school, almost 99 per cent of them told me they have been there since nursery. Today they are in 9th or 10th standard. When you don’t leave school, understand that the school is very good,” she remarked.
TV Star said the confidence and desire among the students to achieve something in life was commendable.
“We should maintain that desire. I know it’s a little difficult. But when you see the fruit of this difficulty, you will be very happy,” she said.
She commended the Army’s role in managing these institutions and nurturing young minds in the region.
Notably, the actress earlier this year revealed that she had been diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer in 2024. Sharing a post on Instagram, she said she had known about her diagnosis for a while and was receiving extensive chemotherapy to deal with the disease. At the time, she also asked fans for privacy and thanked them for their love and support.
Her statement had read, “Despite the challenging diagnosis, I want to reassure everyone that I am doing well.”
The TV star also candidly shared moments from her cancer journey on social media. From receiving treatment to trying out wigs and shaving off her hair, Khan shared many details online to keep everyone informed about her health.
To date, the actress keeps an open mind about her diagnosis and actively talks about it to ensure awareness and education.
Earlier In an interview with Soha Ali Khan, she also opened up about her family’s history of cancer.
“Because we have had a (family) history, we were aware of the fact that this is a possibility. But I never thought it was going to happen to me,” she had said.
