Srinagar, Jan 12: Hundreds of people on Sunday gathered at Eidgah in North Kashmir’s Bandipora District to participate in 'Salaatul Istisqa' – a special prayer to seek rain and snowfal
Kashmir is currently facing an alarming situation with a prolonged absence of rainfall and snowfall.
The faithful were seen crying before Almighty Allah and seeking respite from unprecedented dry weather conditions amid harsh winter period of ‘chila-e-kalan’.
Despite the customary 40-day ‘Chila-e- Kalan’ period in the Kashmir Valley, there has been an unusual absence of snowfall in the hilly areas and a scarcity of rain or snow in the plains.
The forecast indicates no likelihood of widespread snowfall throughout the Kashmir Valley until January 25.
Following the 'Istisqa prayer, attendees expressed their collective hope that divine intervention would alleviate the adverse weather conditions and drought.
The Aquaf Islamia of Bandipora, recognizing the severity of the situation, had previously issued an appeal to Imams, scholars, heads of religious institutions, and the general public to organize "Namaz e Istisqa" on Sunday morning.
"Istisqa prayer" and special supplications were not confined to Bandipora alone, as similar prayers were held in various districts of the Valley.
