Bandipora Feb 18: Residents of Bandipora's Sirender hamlet have levelled serious accusations against the local Sarpanch in filing PMAY cases.

As Sarpanch issued PMAY cases in his Panchayat Halqa, the aforementioned Sarpanch was allegedly accused of favouritism and corruption.

The majority of inhabitants in Sirender hamlet, which is about 20 km from the district seat, are living in poverty.

Speaking to the Kashmir Convenor, the locals claimed that the Sarpanch only recommended the beneficiaries who gave him a commission of Rs 30,000, excluding the names of the most deserving and underprivileged recipients.

The PMAY – a central scheme to ensure housing for all – was announced in October 2015.

In Kashmir Valley, there are countless tiny Panchayat frauds that go unreported, wasting tax payer money while the concerned agencies are in deep sleep.

For the purpose of maintaining anonymity, a resident of Sirender village stated that "our village seems like Cattle without nomads, Sarpanch recommended names of only benefeshries which paid him and the needy is still suffering and hitting Office doors."

Every year, the government presents its budget and pays close attention to the needs of the poor, yet our Village is still in the same situation as it was in 2010, according to another Local.

The sarpanch has no respect for the law; he asks for a commission out in the open without any reluctance, and those who pay receive benefits while the destitute stay homeless.

Villagers demand a strict action against accused Sarpanch.
