Housing For All Scheme: Locals claim deserved people ignored, influential given preference

Sumbal, Feb 25: Locals from Shilwat area of Bandipora today staged a protest outside Block Development Office Sumbal alleging that deserved people have been ignored under the ‘Housing for All’ scheme in the block.

   The protesters said that Panchs and Sarpanchs have been given priority while deserved persons have been side-lined.

   “The names of some people are in the list but they figure at the end. Those who have been given preferences are either Panchas, Sarpanchas or influential people,” the protesters said.

   BDO was not present at the time of protest while efforts to call him didn’t materialize, however, ACD Bandipora Abdul Rashid told KNT that matter will be probed and those who deserve under this scheme will be given first preference.

   Pertinently, ‘Housing For All’ is also called Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana is an initiative by the Government of India in which affordable housing will be provided to the urban poor with a target of building 2 crore affordable houses by 31 March 2022.
