Srinagar, May 29 (KNO): At least 46 senior faculty members of the Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) Soura here have written to the Government, demanding continuation of the services of Dr A.G Ahangar as Director of the institute.

In a letter, a copy of which lies with the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the senior faculty members have demanded the continuation of the services of Dr. A G Ahangar as Director SKIMS, particularly in view of the present Covid-19 situation.

“This refers to the publication in the print media dated May 26, 2021 regarding the term of Prof. A.G. Ahangar, Director SKIMS & EOSG made by some Faculty Members/HOD's of SKIMS demanding therein the advertisement of the position of Director SKIMS. On perusal of the copy of representation submitted to Worthy Chief Secretary by these Faculty Members, it is witnessed that most of the Faculty Members are not signatory to the representation although their names have been recorded in it,” the letter reads.

It reads that in this behalf, it is felt that the demand put forth by these doctors is not in tune with the present circumstances when the public life is at stake in view of Covid-19 Pandemic.

“We whole heartedly welcome continuation of present Director SKIMS at the SKIMS as he has a marvellous contribution towards the patient care more particularly when the death rate due to the ongoing pandemic is most low as compared to Jammu region,” it reads.

The letter further reads; “We feel that the credit goes to Covid warriors among whom a prominent figure is Prof. A.G. Ahangar who has remained instrumental in Covid mitigation efforts and has remained stationed at the headquarters during these testing times. We salute his contribution which needs to be recognized by one and all.”

It reads that at the outset, it is demanded that the incumbent Director may be allowed to continue on the analogy of other Faculty Members till the Pandemic threat is over.

“We feel regretted for the exodus of incumbent Director by the previous Government which was not only unlawful but has caused a severe dent to the development of the SKIMS,” the letter reads.

Pertinently, on May 26 it was reported that some faculty members and senior doctors have written a letter to Chief Secretary of Jammu and Kashmir to advertise the post of Director SKIMS as the incumbent’s superannuation period was nearing—(KNO)
