HWVO  distributes Winter Relief kits at Shopian

Shopian, Feb 17: The nomadic families of Reasi presently living in tents / temporary shelters at Haal Shopian were provided with Winter relief kits by Human Welfare Voluntary Organisation (HWVO) with support from Mercy Universal.

In a statement issued today, an official spokesperson said 29 families were provided with two sets of Blankets and feeding kit (consisting of Atta, Oil, Pulses, Spices, Soya, salt and washing soaps). 69 children (in the age groups of 1 to 14 years) were provided with winter thermals.

The distribution program was held in Haal Shopian and was appreciated by the community for being appropriate in accordance to the need. A community member Mohd Ashraf said, “Living in tents in such harsh winter is very challenging and to get this kind of support will surely help and save us and our children as the nights are still very cold here”.

Tahir Massud (Head Programs) HWVO thanked the District Social Welfare Officer for identifying / recommending the community for winter support and also thanked all the volunteers and community for their support.

HWVO is a not-for-profit, voluntarydevelopmentalorganization and has been working for the last 12 years in Jammu and Kashmir. The organisation has been on the forefront in helping the needy and work towards building a better and Just world / society by invoking volunteerism, strengthening communities (focus on building Individuals on basic human principles, ethics- Morals), work in collaboration, strengthening participatory good governance, having inclusive approach and seeking peaceful and long-term solution of the issues.
