Calls for action against wrong parking, encroachments in town

Bandipora, May 04: A day after Kashmir Convener highlighted the nuisance of wrong parking in Bandipora town, the district administration swung into action on Saturday and launched a drive against wrong parking besides directing relocation of trucks from Nussu area.
Earlier Kashmir Convener reported about the hardships faced by the commuters owing to frequent traffic jams at Nussu due to wrong parking.
On Saturday morning, government officials visited the area and ordered the removal of trucks from the road-side. “The drivers were asked to park their vehicle in New Bus Stand at Nusoo to give easy passage to vehicles plying on Bandipora-Srinagar road. If the drivers fail to comply by the orders of district administration their trucks will be seized,” said an official.
However, the locals said that this should not be on temporary basis as the truck owners follow the orders for few days and park their vehicles on the road side again.
The locals also thanked Kashmir Convener for highlighting the issue and compelling the district administration to act tough against the traffic violators.
An official spokesperson communication from the district administration stated that on Saturday market checking squads of Municipal Committee Bandipora, Legal Metrology , Food , Civil Supplies and Consumers Affairs and Food and Safety lead by Assistant Commissioner Revenue (ACR) conducted an inspection of Bandipora town and imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 from violators of traffic rules.
During the inspection, ACR visited Nussu, New Bus stand, Nishat Park, Neberpora, Old Jamia, Gousia Market, Gulshan Chowk, Jamia Jadeed and Nowpora to inspect the traffic scenario in the town. He called for action against illegal parking on main road and also directed to take strict action against the defaulters.
He warned the erring transporters to abide by the rules saying that the illegal parking and frequent stops in market leads to traffic jams and subsequent hardships to the pedestrians. He also called for strict action against the shopkeepers for occupying the footpaths. Several shopkeepers were fined for keeping their goods on footpaths.
While calling for cooperation from the general public, Beigh assured that the traffic in the town will be regulated and all encroachments will be removed besides checing the illegal parking menace in the town.
ACR Reyaz Ahmad Beigh, during the inspection also visited the Vendors’ Market and directed the officials of MCB to properly manage the space meant for vendors so that all vendors are accommodated at the allotted space. He directed the Municipal authorities not to allow vendors to roam on roads that causes frequent traffic jams besides directing ARTO Bandipora to act tough against wrong parking of trucks at Nussu.
He also called for early relocation of Fish market so that current space occupied by fisherwomen can be vacated. During the inspection several shopkeepers were fined for violating Food Safety norms and a fine of Rs 10,000 were realized from the erring traders.
Beigh also directed the officers to intensify market checking to curb black marketing, profiteering and hoarding of essential commodities. He directed the officers to constitute seven special market checking squads who would be equipped with latest testing and weighing machines to check any violation of set norms.
