New Delhi, October 30: Financial assistance of ₹24 lakh under the National Fellowship for Scheduled Caste Students (NFSC) Scheme has helped a 40-year-old scholar from Udaipur, Rajasthan, pursue his doctoral studies despite economic constraints, according to the Press Information Bureau (PIB).

The scholar, identified as Mahendra Kumar (name changed), began receiving assistance under the scheme in December 2020. The support included fellowship payments, House Rent Allowance (HRA) and contingency grants to meet expenses associated with his PhD.

According to the PIB, Mahendra faced financial difficulties while pursuing higher education but remained committed to research and sought to contribute to the country’s knowledge base through academic work.

The financial assistance helped reduce the economic pressure associated with doctoral studies, allowing him to focus more on research and academic responsibilities.

Mahendra reported that the fellowship supported his academic goals and described its overall impact on his academic, professional and personal life as positive. However, he reported no change in income following the assistance.

The NFSC Scheme aims to support eligible Scheduled Caste students pursuing higher education and research by reducing financial barriers. The initiative is intended to enable scholars to continue advanced studies and contribute to research and national development. (PIB)
