Srinagar, October 25: A major fire broke out at Mir Sales Corporation in Kaka Sarai, Karan Nagar, during the intervening night of October 24-25, causing extensive damage to commercial and adjoining residential-cum-commercial structures.

Around 12 fire stations and 20 fire tenders were deployed to contain the blaze, which was brought under control at around 5:30 am on October 25 after nearly seven hours of sustained firefighting operations.

The operation was conducted under the supervision of Director Fire & Emergency Services (F&ES) Jammu & Kashmir, Alok Kumar, and led on the ground by Deputy Director, F&ES Command Srinagar, Dr Aqib Hussain Mir. Resources were mobilised from F&ES Headquarters and various stations across Srinagar and adjoining areas.

The fire engulfed four commercial structures and a large iron shed containing furnishing materials, polythene, tarpaulins and other combustible items. Firefighters worked to contain the blaze and prevent its spread to nearby properties.

In coordination with J&K Police, SDRF and other responding agencies, F&ES personnel also evacuated patients from the adjoining six-storeyed Medicare Hospital as a precautionary measure. All patients were safely evacuated, while the coordinated response helped prevent direct fire damage to the hospital.

Director F&ES Alok Kumar appreciated the personnel for their professionalism, courage, teamwork and sustained efforts throughout the operation. He also acknowledged the support of J&K Police, SDRF and other agencies involved in the response.

Kumar reiterated the department’s commitment to providing prompt emergency services and protecting human lives and property across Jammu & Kashmir.
