Srinagar, October 20: The J&K Vocational Trainers Welfare Association (JKVTWA) has deferred its indefinite strike for two months following assurances from Education Minister Sakina Itoo and other government officials over its pending demands.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the association said the decision followed meetings with the Education Minister, Commissioner Secretary of the School Education Department and State Project Director, Samagra Shiksha, along with recent developments concerning its pending file.

The association said recommendations on formulating a job policy for vocational trainers and removing Vocational Training Providers (VTPs) had already been submitted by the concerned directors and chief education officers. However, the file had remained pending for nearly nine months, prompting the trainers to launch a peaceful protest.

After 27 days of continuous protest, the association said constructive interactions with government representatives and renewed assurances had encouraged it to suspend the agitation temporarily.

The two-month period would allow the government time to translate its commitments into concrete action, the association said.

JKVTWA UT president Lone Jeelani thanked political leaders, social activists, media organisations and employees’ associations for supporting the protest. He also acknowledged the cooperation of SSP Srinagar, SP North, the concerned DySP and SHO Kothibagh in facilitating the peaceful agitation.

The association appreciated the trainers for maintaining unity and discipline throughout the protest and expressed hope that the government would resolve their demands permanently.

“Our protest stands deferred, not withdrawn,” the association said, reiterating its commitment to safeguarding the rights and interests of vocational trainers across Jammu and Kashmir.
