LPU Rises to 4th Among Indian Universities in THE World University Rankings 2027

Chandigarh, October 05: Lovely Professional University (LPU) has risen to the fourth position among Indian universities in the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2027, moving into the 501–550 global band, according to the latest rankings released by THE.
The university was placed in the 501–600 global band and ranked fifth among Indian universities in the 2026 edition. The latest ranking represents an improvement in both its global band and position among Indian universities, according to the ranking data.
THE’s 2027 World University Rankings cover 2,297 universities across 118 countries and territories, making it the largest edition of the rankings to date, according to THE. India is represented by 143 universities, 15 more than in the previous edition, and is the most represented country in Asia for the second consecutive year.
THE assesses research-intensive universities on indicators covering teaching, research environment, research quality, international outlook and industry engagement.
According to LPU, the university ranked first among private universities in India for Research Environment and fourth in India and 161st globally for Research Quality in the 2027 rankings.
LPU is placed in a higher global band than several established institutions, including Banaras Hindu University (551–600); IIT Indore (651–700); IIT Patna, IIIT Hyderabad, Jawaharlal Nehru University, Panjab University and the University of Delhi (701–800); and IIT Gandhinagar, IIT Mandi and the University of Hyderabad (801–1000).
Commenting on the ranking, LPU Founder, Chancellor and Rajya Sabha Member Dr. Ashok Kumar Mittal said the recognition reflected the university’s focus on academics, research, innovation, entrepreneurship, industry exposure and sports.
The university said its EduRevolution approach focuses on practical exposure, emerging technologies, innovation and real-world learning. It also said its Earn While You Learn initiative provides students opportunities to gain practical experience while pursuing their studies.
LPU also highlighted its sporting achievements as part of its student development ecosystem. According to the university, 24 of its students represented India at the Paris 2024 Olympics, while 58 students represented the country across 15 sports at the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan.
The university further said its student athletes have won nine medals at the ongoing Asian Games, with podium finishes reported in disciplines including shooting, weightlifting and rowing.
