Pampore, October 5: The Department of Wildlife Protection on Monday organised an educational tour for students of Government Middle School Lalpora to Chatlam Wetland, Pampore, as part of the ongoing Wildlife Week 2026 celebrations.

The visit was aimed at giving students first-hand exposure to wetland ecosystems and sensitising them to wildlife conservation, biodiversity and the importance of protecting natural habitats, officials said.

Block Officer Wetlands Pampore John Mohammad Mir and other officials accompanied the students during the field visit.

During the tour, the students were briefed about the ecological significance of the Pampore wetlands and the role of wetlands in supporting biodiversity and maintaining ecosystems. Mir also interacted with the students and encouraged them to contribute to environmental protection and conservation.

Speaking to Kashmir Convener, Mir said the field visit was organised to help students understand wetlands through direct observation.

“These are young students who are still learning about wetlands, their significance and the role they play in our ecosystem. It is important for them to understand what wetlands are, why they are important, and how much our lives and environment depend on them,” he said.

Mir said such field-based programmes were intended to build awareness among students about the ecological importance of wetlands and encourage them to participate in their protection and conservation.

The Wildlife Department said educational initiatives of this nature can help introduce younger students to local ecosystems and encourage greater public participation in conservation efforts.
