New Delhi, September 7: A delegation of the Jammu and Kashmir General Line Teachers Forum (JKGLTF) attended a convention of employee and teachers’ representatives from across the country organised under the banner of the All India NPS Employees Federation (AINPSEF) in New Delhi.
The JKGLTF delegation was led by its Organising Secretary Tasneem Ali Beg and Treasurer Fayaz Ahmad Dar. The convention, chaired by AINPSEF National President Dr Manjeet Singh Patel, discussed issues concerning government employees and teachers, including restoration of the Old Pension Scheme (OPS), the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) for serving teachers and implementation of the 8th Pay Commission.
The participants reiterated their demand for restoration of the OPS and called for a coordinated nationwide effort to pursue the issue. They said retirement security remained an important concern for employees covered under the existing pension arrangements.
The convention also opposed the requirement of TET for serving teachers and urged the Government of India to bring legislation in Parliament to protect the service and employment rights of teachers.
The implementation of the 8th Pay Commission was another key issue discussed at the meeting. Employee representatives stressed the need for its timely implementation to address their concerns.
Addressing the gathering, Dr Manjeet Singh Patel said employees would consider peaceful democratic protests if their demands were not addressed. He called for unity among employee organisations to pursue common issues.
JKGLTF Organising Secretary Tasneem Ali Beg stressed the need for a coordinated national strategy for restoration and implementation of the OPS. He said greater coordination among employee organisations was necessary to pursue their common demands.
JKGLTF Treasurer Fayaz Ahmad Dar sought government intervention on issues concerning teachers and urged the Centre to bring appropriate legislation to safeguard their jobs and service rights.
The JKGLTF delegation said it would continue to raise issues concerning teachers and employees in coordination with national-level organisations, particularly those related to the OPS, job security and the 8th Pay Commission.
