Pulwama, September 5: The 50-bedded Critical Care Block and Casualty Extension at District Hospital Pulwama, being constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 23.75 crore, are nearing completion, officials said on Saturday.
The facilities are expected to strengthen critical care and emergency medical services at the hospital and increase its capacity to handle patients requiring specialised and urgent treatment.
District Hospital Pulwama caters to around 3,000 patients daily and also receives patients from neighbouring districts, including Shopian and Budgam.
The hospital is being upgraded in phases, with several key facilities already modernised. These include operation theatres, the labour room, X-ray plant, casualty, blood bank and ophthalmology unit.
The new Critical Care Block and Casualty Extension are expected to add capacity for managing critical and emergency cases. Officials said the facilities could also reduce the need for patients to travel to distant tertiary healthcare centres for treatment.
Medical Superintendent, District Hospital Pulwama, Dr Abdul Ghani Dar, said the construction work was progressing and had entered its final stage.
He said completion of the two facilities would strengthen the hospital’s infrastructure and improve healthcare delivery to patients.
Dr Dar said the hospital’s existing facilities were also being modernised to provide quality healthcare services closer to the homes of residents.
The project is part of the ongoing infrastructure upgrade at District Hospital Pulwama, which serves as a major healthcare institution for the district and receives patients from surrounding areas.
