LPU Hosts NCC Training Camps for Over 1,000 Cadets

Jalandhar, July 13: Lovely Professional University (LPU) hosted two Combined Annual Training Camps (CATC-35 and CATC-38) of the 8 Punjab Battalion NCC, Phagwara, bringing together 1,092 National Cadet Corps (NCC) cadets for intensive military training, leadership development and national-level selection trials.

The 10-day camps witnessed participation from 485 cadets in CATC-35 and 607 cadets in CATC-38, representing the Senior Division, Senior Wing, Junior Division and Junior Wing. The training programme combined military instruction with specialised skill development and selection processes for prestigious national NCC camps.

CATC-35 focused on drill, physical training, weapon handling, shooting, map reading, field craft, battle craft, health and hygiene, sports activities and NCC instructional classes. The camp, mandatory for B and C Certificate cadets, also featured cultural programmes aimed at fostering teamwork and camaraderie among participants from different institutions.

CATC-38 followed a similar military training schedule while also hosting selection trials for the Thal Sainik Camp (TSC) and assessments for the Republic Day Camp (RDC). Cadets were evaluated through obstacle courses, field signalling, drill competitions and cultural talent screenings to identify candidates for the prestigious national events.

A key feature of CATC-38 was a specialised Drone Training Camp, where cadets received practical exposure to unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), drone piloting, aerial mapping, surveillance applications and operational planning. The sessions introduced participants to emerging technologies increasingly used in modern defence operations.

The camps also promoted social responsibility through a voluntary blood donation camp and a tree plantation drive, reflecting the NCC’s emphasis on community service and environmental conservation.

LPU Pro-Chancellor Col. Dr. Rashmi Mittal said the NCC plays a vital role in developing discipline, leadership, responsibility and a spirit of national service among students. She said the university believes education should nurture character alongside academic excellence, preparing students to become responsible citizens and future leaders.

The university highlighted that its NCC cadets have consistently earned selection for prestigious platforms such as the Republic Day Camp, Thal Sainik Camp and the Youth Exchange Programme, representing India at national and international events.
