New Delhi, September 16: The Indian Institute of Creative Technologies (IICT) and Netflix have announced scholarships for 100 students, offering up to 80% financial support across six professional programmes under the Netflix India Storytelling Initiative.
Applications are open across India until September 30. The scholarships cover two one-year diploma programmes and four six-month certificate programmes.
The programmes include Interactive Comics & Sequential Arts, Visual Effects Mastery, Virtual Art Department Content Creation, Media Tech Workflow, Art of Character Animation, and E-Sports & Gaming Management.
The initiative is supported by the Netflix Fund for Creative Equity and follows Netflix Co-CEO Ted Sarandos’ meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his India visit.
Netflix has also contributed to the curriculum for IICT’s Visual Effects Mastery and Media Tech Workflow programmes to align them with contemporary industry practices.
Chanchal Kumar, Secretary, Ministry of Information & Broadcasting and Chairman, IICT Board, said the collaboration would help bridge the gap between India’s creative talent pool and the evolving requirements of the global AVGC-XR industry.
“Partnerships with leading global players are an important part of building that bridge. Such collaborations will bring industry knowledge into the classroom and help develop India’s talent into the creative workforce of tomorrow,” he said.
Monika Shergill, Vice President, Content, Netflix India, said the partnership would provide the next generation of storytellers with industry-oriented training in animation, VFX, gaming and comics.
Dr. Vishwas Deoskar, CEO, IICT, said the collaboration would bring industry perspectives into the academic framework, including curriculum design, professional workflows and industry standards.
He said the initiative aims to create a stronger pipeline of talent equipped to contribute to India’s growing creative economy.
