Srinagar, Jul 4: In a move that brings relief to travellers and the hospitality sector, authorities at Srinagar International Airport have scrapped the proposed plan to shut down all flight operations on Mondays and Tuesdays.

An official told Kashmir Convener there would be “no full airfield closure” this year and that flights would continue to operate daily between 8 am and 5 pm.

He said The decision to withdraw the Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) regarding a weekly full-runway shutdown comes amid concerns from passengers and tour operators over possible travel chaos during the ongoing tourist season.

The airport, however, made it clear that night-time runway closures for maintenance work would continue until October 2026.

“The previously proposed NOTAM regarding full runway closure on Mondays and Tuesdays is being withdrawn. Airlines will continue to update their schedules in accordance with the prevailing operational timings,” the official said.

Passengers have been advised to check their flight status with airlines before heading to the airport and to depend only on official sources for information.

The clarification comes weeks after the proposed weekly closure had triggered anxiety among travellers, with many fearing a repeat of past disruptions that had hit air connectivity to the Valley. With the withdrawal, daily operations are set to remain unaffected, though night maintenance will carry on as scheduled.
