10th District Shopian Tennis Ball Cricket Championship Concludes at GDC Shopian

Shopian, June 24: The 10th District Shopian Tennis Ball Cricket Championship 2026–27 concluded successfully at Government Degree College (GDC) Shopian, bringing together hundreds of young cricketers in a celebration of sporting excellence and healthy competition.

The championship was organised by the District Shopian Tennis Ball Cricket Association under the aegis of the J&K Tennis Ball Cricket Association and in collaboration with the J&K Sports Council. The event was held under the theme “Nasha Mukht Bharat Abhiyan” to promote a drug-free and healthy society through sports.

More than 500 boys and girls participated in the tournament across Sub-Junior, Junior and Senior categories.

In the Sub-Junior Boys category, Rose Land Harman Shopian emerged champions, while SHMI Shopian finished runners-up. Royal Warriors Shopian won the Sub-Junior Girls title, with Shopian Elites securing the runners-up position.

SHMI Shopian clinched the Junior Boys championship trophy, while NPEM School Tulran Shopian finished runners-up. In the Junior Girls category, Black Eagles Shopian Reshinagar emerged champions, while IDPS Nagbal Shopian secured the runners-up spot.

In the Senior Boys category, South Edge Resorts Sedow lifted the championship title after an impressive performance, while GDC Shopian finished as runners-up. Star Eleven Shopian won the Senior Girls title, with Royal Club Shopian ending as runners-up.

The closing ceremony was attended by Principal Government Degree College Shopian, Prof. Tariq Hussain Mir, who served as the chief guest. Guests of honour included Ghulam Rasool Khanday, Incharge Sports Stadium Batpora Shopian, along with Malik Shabir Ahmad, Aarif Ahmad and Malik Faizan Ahmad.

Speaking on the occasion, Organising Secretary Ms. Ishrat Ishaq Naik congratulated all participating teams and appreciated the efforts of officials, coaches, volunteers and supporters for ensuring the successful conduct of the championship.

She also expressed gratitude to the J&K Sports Council and the J&K Tennis Ball Cricket Association for their continued support in providing a competitive platform for young athletes and promoting sports culture across Jammu and Kashmir.

The championship concluded with prize distribution and recognition of outstanding performers, reaffirming the role of sports in youth engagement, talent development and social awareness.
