Shopian Police take action against Illegal Mining; 11 vehicles seized, 2 FIRs registered

SHOPIAN, June 07: Continuing its sustained crackdown against illegal mining activities, Shopian Police seized eleven vehicles (Tippers, Dumpers & Tractors) involved in the unauthorized extraction and transportation of minerals from different areas of the district.

A special naka was established by Police Station Shopian during which nine vehicles (tippers and dumpers), coming from Pulwama towards Shopian, were intercepted and found carrying mining material without valid royalty documents. The vehicles were seized on spot. In this regard FIR No. 107/2026 has been registered at Police Station Shopian under relevant sections of law. Investigation has been taken up.

In a separate action, a police team from Police Post Berthipora intercepted and seized two tractors involved in the illegal extraction and transportation of minerals without the requisite permission. Accordingly, FIR No. 62/2026 has been registered at Police Station Keller under relevant sections of law and investigation has been initiated.

Shopian Police reiterates its firm commitment towards safeguarding the district’s natural resources and ensuring strict legal action against individuals involved in illegal mining activities. The general public is urged to cooperate with the police by reporting any such unlawful activities. The identity of informants shall be kept strictly confidential.
