Anantnag, June 3: A man lost his life while his wife sustained critical injuries after a tree uprooted by strong winds collapsed on the couple in the Janglat Mandi area of Anantnag on Tuesday.
The couple was reportedly present near the Janglat Mandi–Lal Chowk road when the ageing tree suddenly uprooted and fell on them amid gusty winds.
The deceased has been identified as Mohammad Rafiq Kujwal of Utross. Despite efforts by doctors, he succumbed to his injuries. His wife, who was also injured in the incident, is undergoing treatment and remains in critical condition.
The incident has raised concerns over the presence of old and unsafe trees along roadsides, with local residents urging the authorities to conduct an immediate safety assessment and remove potentially hazardous trees to prevent similar incidents in the future.
