Srinagar, June 2: A delegation of the Jammu and Kashmir Civil Secretariat Retired Employees Welfare Forum on Tuesday met the Chairman and senior officials of the 8th Central Pay Commission during its visit to Srinagar and presented a memorandum highlighting the concerns and welfare needs of retired employees and pensioners.

The delegation, led by Forum President Nazir Ahmad Mir and comprising Chand Ji Bhat and Mushtaq Hussain Khan, sought measures to strengthen pension and social security benefits for retired employees across Jammu and Kashmir.

During the interaction, the delegation highlighted challenges faced by pensioners due to rising inflation, increasing healthcare costs and the need for a more equitable pension framework. The Forum urged the Commission to recommend steps to ensure financial security, dignity and improved quality of life for retirees and family pensioners.

Among the key demands raised were adoption of a realistic fitment factor for pension revision, adequate relief against inflation, enhancement of medical benefits, increase in Fixed Medical Allowance for pensioners residing outside CGHS-covered areas, strengthening of social security measures and rationalisation of pension-related provisions.

The delegation also sought special consideration for pensioners in Jammu and Kashmir in view of the region’s geographical and socio-economic conditions.

The Forum said the Commission gave a patient hearing to the issues raised and sought detailed inputs on pension revision and welfare measures affecting retired employees.

Speaking after the meeting, Forum President Nazir Ahmad Mir expressed hope that the genuine concerns of retired employees and pensioners would receive due consideration while finalising the recommendations of the 8th Central Pay Commission.

The Forum also thanked the Chairman and members of the Commission for providing an opportunity to present the concerns and expectations of retired Civil Secretariat employees of Jammu and Kashmir
