FCS&CA, LMD conduct surprise inspections of two oil mills

JAMMU, MAY 26: On the directions of Director, Food Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs Jammu Rajesh Kumar Sharvan, a joint team of the Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs (FCS&CA) Department and the Legal Metrology Department conducted surprise inspections of oil mills at Gangyal to ensure the protection of consumer rights and adherence to prescribed standards.

During the inspection of Sansar Oil Mill by the FCS&CA team, certain discrepancies were observed in the stock of refined oil having a declared weight of 675 grams/bottle. Based on the above variation, the team of Legal Metrology was called and a joint inspection done.

Following the detection of violation, the stock was seized and the packing operations of the unit were stopped. A seizure memo was served by the Legal Metrology Department for further necessary action under the relevant provisions of law.

Earlier, the joint team had similarly conducted a surprise inspection of JK Oil Mills, where discrepancies were noticed during the checking of different oil packages having a declared weight of 15 kg. Consequently, a fine amounting to ₹ two lakh was imposed on the unit by the Legal Metrology Department under the relevant provisions of law.

The Director FCS&CA stated that such inspections will continue across the Jammu Division to ensure fair trade practices, maintain transparency and safeguard consumer interests. He further emphasized that strict action will be taken against violators affecting the interest of the consumers whether it is adulteration, underweight, substandard or overpriced commodities.

Deputy Director (P/S); A.D. Mills; A.D. Circle-II; Inspector, FCS&CA Department and Inspector of LMD were part of the inspection team.
