Bandipora, May 20: District Hub for Empowerment of Women, Mission Shakti Bandipora, Social Welfare Department, in collaboration with the Youth Services & Sports Bandipora and the Education Department on Tuesday organised a girls’ Tug of War competition at Government Higher Secondary School Kaloosa
An official spokesperson said the event was organised under the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao initiative and witnessed participation from girls’ teams representing HSS Plan and HSS Nadihal.
The programme was organized to encourage girls’ empowerment and promote teamwork, leadership, physical fitness, confidence, and participation in sports activities.
Officials associated with Mission Shakti Bandipora said the initiative aimed to create awareness about the role of sports in developing discipline, patience, unity, and coordination among young girls.
They stated that games such as Tug of War help participants understand the value of collective effort, determination, and teamwork.
Officials from the Education Department, Youth Services & Sports Bandipora, school authorities, teachers, and students attended and participated in the programme.
As part of the initiative, free uniforms were distributed among players and umpires to encourage greater participation in sports activities. Organizers said the support was intended to motivate students and strengthen involvement of girls in extracurricular and physical education programmes.
During the event, umpires were felicitated for their role in ensuring the smooth conduct of the competition and for maintaining fair judgment throughout the matches. Both participating teams were also appreciated for their sportsmanship and participation in the competition.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks extended to the collaborating departments, school authorities, officials, teachers, and students for their support in organizing the event successfully. (
