Srinagar, May 19: National Conference chief spokesperson and MLA Zadibal Tanvir Sadiq on Tuesday demanded immediate restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir, saying the people are “tired of hearing ‘appropriate time'”.

Reminding the Centre of promises made by the Prime Minister, the Home Minister and the Supreme Court, MLA Sadiq said the people were assured a three-phase process — delimitation, elections and restoration of statehood.

“Delimitation happened, election happened, and then an elected government came. We were promised an appropriate time,” Sadiq told reporters here as per Kashmir Convener.

“It has been one-and-a-half years since an elected government took part in a budget. If there is still not an appropriate time after one-and-a-half years, then tell me, for God’s sake, when is that appropriate time?” he asked

MLA Sadiq questioned whether the delay was because it is a National Conference government in power. “The promise that has been made to us has a chance to be fulfilled today. The mandate of the people should be respected, and restoration of statehood should be done as soon as possible.”

MLA Sadiq congratulated Chief Minister Omar Abdullah for his personal intervention in resolving Srinagar’s long-pending solid waste management crisis.

He said a Rs 361-crore plan has been cleared to handle 800-900 tonnes per day (TPD) of waste. “The mountains of legacy waste — some 11.5 lakh tonnes — need to be eliminated,” he said, calling it a “big thing” for the city.

MLA Sadiq added that the government plans to use Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF) from legacy waste in cement plants, a model that could be replicated across all districts of Jammu and Kashmir.
