Ganderbal, May 15: Residents of Ward No. 13 in Wanipora area of Ganderbal town have voiced strong resentment against the Municipal Council Ganderbal over the alleged failure to provide basic sanitation services, forcing locals to clean their surroundings on their own despite regularly paying municipal sanitation fees.

According to residents, no sweeper has visited the locality for nearly 60 days, leading to the accumulation of waste and growing public inconvenience. Locals said they have been left with no option but to undertake cleanliness drives themselves to maintain hygiene in the area.

“We are paying sanitation fees every month, yet no proper service is being provided. Residents are now compelled to clean the streets and surroundings on their own,” a local resident said while expressing frustration over the continued neglect.

The residents further alleged that the garbage collection vehicle visits the area only once a week, despite earlier assurances from the authorities that waste collection would be carried out at least twice weekly.

Terming the situation as unfortunate and unfair, locals pointed out that the office of the Municipal Council Ganderbal is itself located in Wanipora, making the neglect even more concerning. They stated that Wanipora represents a prominent area of Ganderbal town and deserves proper civic attention and sanitation facilities.

Responding to the concerns, Executive Officer (EO) of Municipal Council Ganderbal, Naveed Aijaz Khan, told Kashmir Convener that tenders for sweepers have already been floated and deployment will be carried out soon to improve cleanliness in the affected areas.

The aggrieved residents have appealed to the Deputy Commissioner Ganderbal and concerned authorities to immediately intervene, deploy sanitation staff in the area, and ensure regular garbage collection to restore cleanliness and public hygiene.
