Baramulla, May 12: The Baramulla district administration has prepared a list of all drug peddlers in the district and mapped their properties across both police divisions, Deputy Commissioner S.H. Fakhruddin said on Tuesday, as Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha led a ‘padyatra’ under his 100-day drug-free initiative at the Showkat Ali Stadium.

Addressing a large gathering, DC Baramulla outlined a three-fold strategy — enforcement, rehabilitation, and deterrence — and said the administration has appointed hires to act on the property mapping.

“All the drug peddlers in Baramulla have their list made and their entire property has been mapped,” he said, speaking in the presence of LG Sinha.

On the rehabilitation front, the DC said that since April 11, the district has conducted around 2,400 counselling sessions with a dedicated team of counsellors. The IPD rehabilitation centre in Baramulla has been expanded to seven beds, he added.

“I am hopeful that we will reach the target of rehabilitation and relief,” DC S.H Fakhruddin said.

The DC stressed that the day’s event was more than a symbolic march. “It is a message, a resolution of every individual here that we will try our best to make Baramulla a drug-free district,” he said.

He also issued a warning to those trapped in addiction “Your entire system will be destroyed and you will not get any benefit.”

DC Baramulla also assured victims that the administration “will try and succeed to get you out of this addiction.”

Asserting that the awareness programme is being carried out in a “thoughtful, well-planned manner” to create an information network for the police and civil administration, DC Baramulla added with an assurance to the LG Sinha.

“On behalf of the district administration, on behalf of the people here, on behalf of the entire intellectual community here, I assure you that this entire mission is being carried out on your instructions — do not mess with the innocent and leave the culprits he further added.
