Saharsa, Bihar, May 5: REC Limited on Tuesday inaugurated the Sankara Eye Hospital Saharsa in Saharsa, Bihar, funded through a corporate social responsibility (CSR) grant of ₹11.55 crore under the initiative “Bringing Vision to Bihar,” aimed at expanding access to eye care services in the region.
The facility was inaugurated by Giriraj Singh in the presence of TSC Bosh and other government officials and senior representatives of the company.
According to officials, the hospital is expected to address gaps in ophthalmic care in northern Bihar, particularly in underserved and rural areas. The project has been structured with defined service targets over a five-year period, including 1.5 lakh outpatient consultations and 40,000 cataract surgeries. The initiative is aimed at reducing preventable blindness through early detection and surgical intervention.
The hospital will also provide free and subsidized treatment to economically weaker sections, in line with its mandate to expand access to healthcare services. Officials said the facility is equipped to deliver both diagnostic and surgical care for a range of eye conditions.
The ₹11.55 crore CSR funding from REC Limited has been utilized to establish medical and operational infrastructure at the hospital. This includes advanced ophthalmic diagnostic and surgical equipment, fully equipped patient wards, and operation theatres designed to meet clinical standards.
As part of its outreach strategy, the hospital will deploy mobile units to conduct screening camps in remote villages, enabling early identification of eye conditions and referral for treatment. The outreach component is intended to improve access in areas with limited healthcare infrastructure.
REC Limited, a public sector enterprise under the Ministry of Power, undertakes CSR initiatives in sectors including healthcare, education, and rural development.
