Shopian Police Continue Crackdown on Illegal Narcotic Cultivation; Poppy Plants Destroyed, 02 FIRs Registered

SHOPIAN, April 28: Continuing its sustained and intensified campaign against the drug menace, Shopian Police carried out a series of successful operations targeting illegal poppy cultivation in different parts of the district. Acting on specific information, police teams from Police Post Keegam accompanied by officials from Revenue Department, conducted raids in the areas of Ganwopora and Nowpora bala.

During the operation at Ganowpora, illegal poppy cultivation was detected on land belonging to Ab Rashid Magray son of Mohd Ramzan Magray. The illicit crop was promptly destroyed on the spot. In this connection, Case FIR No. 69/2026 under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Shopian and investigation has been initiated.

In a similar action at Nowpora Bala illegal poppy cultivation was found on land belonging to Mohd Amin Wani son of Gh Mohd Wani. Accordingly, Case FIR No. 70/2026 under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Shopian and investigation initiated.

Shopian Police reiterated its firm commitment to eradicating the menace of drug abuse and illegal narcotics cultivation from the district. The general public is urged to cooperate with the police and share any information related to drug trafficking or unlawful cultivation to help build a drug-free society.
