Ganderbal Police Destroy Illicit Poppy Cultivation, Two Cases Registered

GANDERBAL, APRIL 25: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Saturday destroyed illicit poppy cultivation at two locations in Ganderbal district and registered two cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

Officials said the first instance was detected during routine patrolling in Watlar village under the jurisdiction of Police Station Lar, where a patch of land was found cultivated with poppy plants. Preliminary inquiry indicated the involvement of Ghulam Rasool Sheikh. Accordingly, FIR No. 13/2026 under relevant provisions of the NDPS Act was registered at Police Station Lar.

In a separate operation, Police Station Kheerbhawani detected illegal opium poppy cultivation on agricultural land at Darakhpora. FIR No. 10/2026 under Sections 8/18 and 32/46 of the NDPS Act has been registered in the case, and investigation has been initiated.

Police said the illegal cultivation at both locations was destroyed during the operations.

Officials reiterated that action against drug-related activities will continue as part of efforts to curb the narcotics menace. The public has been urged to share information regarding any such illegal cultivation or trafficking activities.
