Illegal Poppy Cultivation Destroyed in Bandipora, Two Booked Under NDPS Act

BANDIPORA, APRIL 25: Police on Saturday destroyed illegal poppy cultivation spread over more than eight marlas of land in Lawaypora village of north Kashmir’s Bandipora district and registered two cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

According to officials, Jammu and Kashmir Police received specific information about illicit poppy cultivation at Check Lawaypora, following which a joint team of police, revenue and excise departments conducted a field visit to verify the inputs.

During the operation, the team обнаружed poppy plants cultivated illegally over a sizeable patch of land. The crop was subsequently destroyed on the spot by the joint team.

Police said two separate cases have been registered in connection with the cultivation. FIR No. 44/2026 under Section 8/18 of the NDPS Act was filed against Ghulam Mohammad Malik, while FIR No. 45/2026 under the same provisions was registered against Ghulam Hassan Khan.

Officials said further investigation into the cases is underway.

Authorities reiterated that action against illegal cultivation and drug-related activities will continue as part of efforts to curb the narcotics menace in the district.
