PAMPORE, April 11: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday organised a plantation and cleanliness drive in the Wahab Sahib, Shar Shali area of Pampore under its ongoing ‘Gaon Chalo Abhiyan’, aimed at promoting environmental awareness and grassroots-level public participation.

The programme witnessed active participation from senior party leaders and local workers, including former BJP District President Pulwama Mohammad Lateef Bhat, along with Mohammad Asif Ganaie, Mohammad Altaf Mir, Manzoor Ganie, Arfat Khan, Yasir Bhat and Sajad Ahmad.

As part of the initiative, participants planted saplings at various locations and carried out sanitation activities across the locality. Local school students also joined the drive enthusiastically, contributing to both plantation and cleanliness efforts.

Speaking on the occasion, party leaders highlighted the importance of such initiatives in preserving the environment and fostering a healthy society. They emphasised that community participation is key to maintaining cleanliness and addressing environmental challenges.

They urged residents, especially youth, to take an active role in keeping their surroundings clean and enhancing green cover through plantation drives. Such initiatives, they said, not only promote environmental sustainability but also strengthen civic responsibility and community bonding.

Participants reiterated their commitment to continue organising similar programmes in the future to build a cleaner and greener society.

Speaking to Kashmir Convener, senior BJP leader Mohammad Lateef Bhat said the programme was organised in connection with the party’s Foundation Day observed on April 6. He added that the drive would continue, with Sunday marking its final day.

He also appreciated the participation of school students and acknowledged the efforts of party workers. Emphasising the message of the campaign, he said, “Cleanliness is our faith,” urging people to maintain sanitation in drains, lanes, parks and other public spaces.
