Fee waiver not possible due to rising recruitment cost: Govt

Jammu, Mar 31: The Jammu and Kashmir government on Tuesday ruled out waiving job application fees for candidates, stating that the revenue generated was essential to meet the escalating costs of conducting fair and transparent recruitment examinations in the Union Territory.

In a written reply in the Legislative Assembly, the minister in-charge of the General Administration Department said the Jammu and Kashmir Public Service Commission (JKPSC) and the Jammu and Kashmir Services Selection Board (JKSSB) incurred substantial expenditure at multiple stages of the selection process.

The minister was responding to legislator Hilal Akbar Lone, who had sought a concession or exemption for job aspirants, citing rising unemployment and financial hardships.

“These expenditures arise from multiple stages of the selection process, including the conduct of written and OMR-based examinations, interviews, engagement of subject experts, and the deployment of manpower and infrastructure,” the minister said.

He added that the examination process involved intricate and sensitive procedures requiring strict adherence to standards of security, fairness, and transparency. Costs had increased progressively due to advanced technological interventions aimed at ensuring the integrity of the recruitment mechanism, he said.

“Accordingly, the prescribed examination fee is essential to defray a portion of these escalating costs incurred at various stages of the recruitment process,” the minister informed the House.

He further stated that the fee structure remained a vital component in sustaining the recruitment framework in the Union Territory.
