Indian Army Organises Half Marathon in Ganderbal, 237 Runners Participate

Ganderbal, March 29: The Indian Army on Sunday organised a half marathon in Ganderbal district, with around 237 runners participating in the event aimed at promoting fitness and youth engagement.

The event, titled PTR Shabir Ahmad Malik, KC(P) Half Marathon, was conducted from Qamariya Ground in Ganderbal to Sainik School Manasbal. Participants from different districts took part in the run under the open age category, officials said.

According to officials, the marathon was organised as part of outreach initiatives to encourage physical fitness and community participation. The route covered key locations including Madri-Meharbaan Ground, Beehama Chowk, Chapergund, Wayil Bridge, Lar and Barsoo before concluding at the Sainik School Manasbal ground.

Army personnel were deployed along the route to manage the event and assist participants. Officials said arrangements were made to ensure smooth conduct and safety of runners throughout the course.

On the occasion, Veer Pita Ghulam Hassan Malik was felicitated in recognition of the sacrifice of his son, PTR Shabir Ahmad Malik, who was posthumously awarded the Kirti Chakra. The tribute was paid during the event by senior Army officials.

Participants and local residents attended the event and interacted with organisers. Some participants said the marathon provided an opportunity to engage in physical activity and community interaction.

Officials said such events are organised to promote fitness and encourage youth participation in constructive activities.

The Army added that similar initiatives will continue to be conducted to support community engagement and public outreach.
