Police Solve Sheep Theft Case in Awantipora, Accused Arrested and Animals Recovered

Awantipora, Jan 17: Police in Awantipora have solved a sheep theft case by arresting the accused and recovering the stolen animals along with the vehicle used in the commission of the crime.

According to police, a written complaint was received on January 15 at Police Post Toll Plaza from Nisar Ahmad Khanday of Chersoo, alleging that unknown persons had stolen sheep from his cowshed during the intervening night of January 14 and 15. Acting on the complaint, FIR No. 22/2026 under relevant sections of law was registered at Police Station Awantipora and an investigation was initiated.

During the investigation, a police team led by Sub-Inspector Ishfaq Ahmad, Incharge Police Post Toll Plaza, under the supervision of SHO Awantipora Inspector Ajaz Ahmad, employed technical and ground-level investigative methods, including the examination of CCTV footage from various locations. These efforts led to the identification and arrest of the accused, identified as Mohd Khalid Bargat, son of Mohd Akbar, a resident of Gondhawas Khass, Rajouri.

Police said that during sustained interrogation, the accused confessed to his involvement in the theft. On his disclosure, five stolen sheep were recovered. The vehicle bearing registration number JK13G-6966, which was used to transport the stolen animals, was also seized.

The accused is currently in police custody. Police said further investigation is underway and more arrests and recoveries are likely as the probe progresses.
