Pampore, Jan 17: A press conference was held in Saffron Town Pampore on Saturday under the banner of the Regional Development Forum (RDF), Pampore, during which the forum strongly reiterated its demand for granting district status to Pampore.

Addressing the media, RDF member Mukhtar Ahmad Tantary, along with other members of the forum, said that Pampore has been facing prolonged political and social neglect despite its historical significance and growing population. The forum clarified that RDF is a non-political platform working solely in the interest of public welfare and regional development.

Speakers at the press conference stated that Pampore fulfills all the required criteria for upgradation to a district in terms of history, geography, and population. However, they expressed concern that residents are still compelled to depend on other districts for basic administrative facilities, terming the situation unjust and unfair to the local population.

The forum further demanded that areas such as Panthachowk, Zewan Khunmoh, Zaffran Colony, Zinpora, Tengan, Shalina, BK Pora, and several other adjoining localities should be merged with Pampore to make the proposed district more viable and administratively strong.

Members of the Regional Development Forum said that granting district status to Pampore would greatly improve administrative efficiency, reduce public hardship in day-to-day affairs, and open new avenues for overall development of the region.

Urging the government and concerned authorities to take up the matter on priority, the forum appealed for early approval of district status for Pampore in the larger public interest so that the long-pending issues of the area can be effectively addressed.
