Bandipora, Jan 15: Residents of Bon Mohalla Hakabara in Bandipora district on Thursday staged a protest against the Power Development Department (PDD), alleging prolonged negligence over a faulty electricity transformer that has disrupted normal life in the area for months.
The protesting residents said the transformer has remained non-functional for the past three months. They alleged that although the department has carried out repairs several times, the transformer starts working only for a few hours before breaking down again, a situation that has continued repeatedly.
Expressing strong resentment, locals accused the concerned department of adopting a “silent attitude” towards their grievances. They further alleged that the repeated breakdowns raise serious questions about the quality of the repair work, claiming that repairs are being carried out in a casual manner merely to repeatedly claim charges, without addressing the root cause of the problem.
Due to the erratic power supply, residents said they are facing severe hardships, with daily routines badly affected. They said students are suffering due to lack of electricity for studies, while other essential household and livelihood-related activities have also been disrupted.
The aggrieved residents appealed to the district administration to take immediate cognisance of the issue and direct the Power Development Department to provide a permanent solution, either by properly repairing or replacing the transformer, so that the people of the area are relieved of the prolonged inconvenience.
