Bandipora, January 12: Indian National Congress on Monday suffered an internal setback in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district after former District President Congress Mushtaq Ahmad Tantray and his older brother Gh Nabi Tantray – close aid of MLA Bandipora Nizamudin Bhat part ways.
The duo announced disassociation with MLA Bandipora in a hurriedly called press conference citing dissatisfaction with local leadership and unresolved internal differences.
The former district president of the Congress, in the presence of senior party leader Ghulam Nabi Tantray, said the group would no longer maintain any political or organisational association with the sitting MLA from Bandipora, Nizamuddin Bhat.
Tantray, considered a close associate of the MLA and a key figure in multiple election campaigns, alleged that grassroots workers had been consistently neglected despite their role in securing electoral victories. “We worked relentlessly during election campaigns to ensure the success of MLA Nizamuddin Bhat, but our efforts and concerns were repeatedly ignored,” he said.
Expressing regret over what he described as the sidelining of core workers after elections, Tantray said public support was mobilised through promises that were later forgotten. “The trust of workers was taken for granted. Once votes were secured, the workers were pushed aside,” he added.
Announcing a change in political course, Tantray said the group would now pursue an independent path and contest future elections on its own strength. “We will remain accountable to the people who supported us,” he said.
