New Delhi, Jan 6: In a strong endorsement of India’s commitment to green hydrogen and sustainable transportation, Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy Shri Pralhad Joshi and Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Shri Nitin Gadkari on Tuesday took a joint ride in a hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicle (FCEV).

On the occasion, Pralhad Joshi drove the Toyota Mirai, a hydrogen-powered fuel cell vehicle, from Bharat Mandapam to the residence of Nitin Gadkari, symbolising the Government of India’s push towards clean mobility solutions and the adoption of green hydrogen as a future fuel.

The demonstration ride underscored the Centre’s vision of reducing carbon emissions, promoting energy independence, and accelerating the transition towards environmentally sustainable transport systems.

An official spokesperson said the Toyota Mirai is a second-generation hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicle that generates electricity through a chemical reaction between hydrogen and oxygen, emitting only water vapour as a by-product. With a driving range of around 650 kilometres and a refuelling time of less than five minutes, the Mirai is regarded as one of the world’s most advanced zero-emission vehicles.

He said the initiative aligns with India’s National Green Hydrogen Mission and reflects the Government’s efforts to position the country as a global leader in clean energy and next-generation mobility technologies. (PIB)
