JKGLTF Opposes Assignment of Teachers as Nodal Officers for Stray Dog Management

Srinagar, 10 December: The Jammu and Kashmir General Line Teachers Forum (JKGLTF) has expressed serious concern over the recent government order assigning teachers the responsibility of serving as nodal officers for stray dog management, describing the move as unjustified, inappropriate and demoralising for the teaching fraternity.

In a statement issued by its Media Wing, JKGLTF said that the decision amounts to a blatant disregard for the dignity and professional role of teachers, whose primary responsibility is academic instruction and the overall educational development of students.

The Forum maintained that assigning educators duties that are entirely unrelated to teaching not only distracts them from their core work but also places them in roles for which they are neither trained nor responsible.

The teachers’ body underscored that matters such as stray animal control and welfare fall squarely within the jurisdiction of municipal bodies, veterinary departments, and animal welfare authorities, and cannot be arbitrarily transferred to teaching staff.

“Such assignments are unfair, unsafe, and deeply disrespectful to the profession,” the Forum stated, adding that teachers should never be compelled to perform tasks that compromise their safety or professional standing.

JKGLTF strongly urged the Education Minister to take immediate cognisance of the issue and intervene to withdraw the order at the earliest. The Forum emphasized that protecting the dignity of teachers is essential not only for the morale of educators but also for maintaining the quality of education across Jammu and Kashmir.

Reiterating its commitment to safeguarding the professional rights of teachers, JKGLTF expressed hope that the government would act promptly to correct the decision and ensure that teachers are confined to their rightful role in shaping the academic future of students, rather than being burdened with non-academic administrative tasks.
