Bandipora, Nov 6:Daily-wage workers of the Sericulture Department staged a protest in Bandipora on Friday, demanding the release of their pending wages, which they said had remained unpaid for several months.

The protesters raised slogans against the department and the administration, alleging that the delay had pushed their families into severe financial distress.

Speaking to reporters, the workers said they were struggling to meet basic household expenses, pay their children’s school fees and afford medical treatment for family members due to the non-payment of wages. They said they had been forced to borrow money to manage daily expenses.

“We have not received a single rupee for the past several months, forcing us into destitution and debt. Meeting basic daily expenses, paying our children’s school fees, and affording medical treatment for sick family members has become entirely impossible,” they said

The workers urged the higher authorities of the Sericulture Department and the Jammu and Kashmir administration to intervene and ensure the immediate release of their pending dues.

They warned that failure to clear the wages would compel them to intensify their protest. The workers said they would stage an indefinite sit-in outside the Director of Sericulture’s office in the coming days in Srinagar.

Talking to Kashmir Convener, District Sericulture Officer, Bandipora, said the matter had already been taken up with higher authorities and was expected to be resolved within a few days.
