Srinagar, Dec 03: In an era where Kashmir’s ancient culture including its language, customs, and traditional attire faces gradual decline, a new generation is stepping forward to reclaim and revitalize this rich heritage.

Meet Huzaifa Khan, a young entrepreneur from Srinagar, alongside her father, is dedicating herself to preserving Kashmir’s traditional arts and clothing.

Speaking Exclusively with Kashmir Convener, Huzaifa Bazaz a management student stated “Sustaining this heritage is a family legacy. This is our long-standing family business. My grandfather was involved, then my father continued it, and now I have joined him to elevate this traditional clothing store with the aim of preserving our Kashmiri heritage. While my father remains actively involved, I now manage a major part of the operations. Whether it is virtual connectivity, social media, exhibitions, or customer interactions, I oversee it all.

For me, this digital venture is more than a business it is a passion. This work is fundamentally about Kashmiri arts, but as a management student, I have incorporated certain elements to help preserve our culture and connect with younger generations through the essence of Kashmiriyat she said.

My father’s steadfast support has been crucial. He always accompanies me to exhibitions. For a woman, having a father’s support is empowering it provides an advantage and the confidence to revive traditions that we see fading day by day.

Huzaifa while talking to Kashmir Convener said that I draw inspiration from my grandfather and father, who dedicated years to keeping Kashmiri traditions alive. Seeing their efforts always inspired me. Today, I am managing the business with a modern approach, but without compromising on our core traditional culture.

In today’s digital era, I believe an online presence is essential to safeguard heritage. Our culture was slowly fading into obscurity. That is precisely why I stepped forward to secure our traditions and heritage through a digital platform.

She further added that I could have chosen other professions, but I decided to invest in our family business. This way, the tradition stays alive, and we continue striving to revive our culture and heritage.”

Notably, for local entrepreneurs, the abrogation of Article 370 brought several changes. With the removal of the special autonomous status, it became easier for businesses to operate in the Kashmir region, as they were no longer subject to some regulations that had previously hindered growth.

The government also introduced numerous new initiatives aimed at promoting entrepreneurship and job creation in the area, providing local entrepreneurs with expanded opportunities to succeed.
