DLSA Bandipora Observes Constitution Day with District-Wide Events

Bandipora, Nov 26:   The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Bandipora on Wednesday observed Constitution Day with a solemn programme held at the District Court Complex Bandipora.

An official spokesperson said the event was organised under the guidance of the Chief Justice of the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, Justice Arun Palli, Patron-in-Chief of J&K Legal Services Authority, and Executive Chairman Justice Sanjeev Kumar.

The initiative was supervised by Member Secretary J&K Legal Services Authority, Ms. Shazia Tabasum, and led at the district level by Principal District and Sessions Judge Bandipora, Mr. Mir Wajahat, who also serves as In-Charge Chairman, DLSA Bandipora.

The observance reflected coordinated efforts within the district judiciary. Secretary DLSA Bandipora, Mr. Sheikh Babar Hussain, along with Chief Judicial Magistrate Bandipora, Mr. Iqbal Ahmad Aakhoon, and Munsiff Bandipora, Mr. Amandeep, ensured disciplined conduct of the programme and meaningful public participation.

The day began with a ceremonial hoisting of the National Flag at sunrise. The flag was raised with full decorum with support from the Senior Superintendent of Police Bandipora. Officials said the Tricolour would be lowered at sunset in accordance with protocol. The gesture symbolised institutional harmony and collective respect for constitutional values.

The formal proceedings opened with a welcome address by CJM Bandipora, Mr. Iqbal Ahmad Aakhoon, who spoke about the relevance of the Constitution in safeguarding democratic rights. He stressed the judiciary’s responsibility in upholding constitutional ideals.

This was followed by the reading of the Preamble, led by Principal District and Sessions Judge Bandipora, Mr. Mir Wajahat. In his address, he said that while reciting the Preamble, “we stand first as citizens before we stand as authorities.” He observed that the Constitution not only empowers institutions but also defines identity and assigns responsibility.

He reminded participants that the dignity of a court is earned through respect, discipline and transparency, and that justice is reflected not only in judicial orders but in the entire atmosphere of the court. He said every litigant arrives with trust, and preserving that trust is the judiciary’s foremost duty.

Constitution Day was also celebrated at TLSC Gurez and TLSC Sumbal, where Munsiff JMIC Gurez, Ms. Mehak Mehboob, and Munsiff JMIC Sumbal, Ms. Rahila Rashid, conducted parallel programmes. These included reading of the Preamble, interactive sessions, and outreach activities aimed at strengthening public understanding of constitutional rights and duties.

Judicial officers, members of the Bar, litigants and DLSA staff participated in the events. Awareness sessions were conducted to highlight fundamental rights, duties and the importance of constitutional literacy.

As part of the continuing observance, DLSA Bandipora has scheduled an interactive session at 4:30 PM at the District Court Complex. Members of the Bar and invited speakers will share reflections on constitutional values and their significance in the justice delivery system.

The day’s events concluded with a collective pledge to uphold constitutional principles, promote access to justice and nurture a respectful, transparent and citizen-centric judicial culture. DLSA Bandipora reaffirmed its commitment to deepening legal awareness and strengthening public faith in the justice system.
