Bandipora, July 25: Rising water levels in the Jhelum River and Wular Lake have sparked concerns over possible inundation in several villages along the Wular banks in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district, with MLA Nizamuddin Bhat urging the administration to immediately step up preventive, safety and relief measures.
In a post on X, Bhat said the swelling waters of the Jhelum and Wular have posed a threat of flooding to Zurimanz, Kaniyari, Lehrwalpora, Saderkoot Payeen, and several other habitations located along the Wular banks.
Tagging the concerned authorities, including Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Wular authorities, the legislator called for immediate action, stressing the need for all preventive, safety and relief measures to protect vulnerable populations and minimise the impact of any possible inundation.
The appeal comes amid growing concern over rising water levels following recent rainfall, with residents of low-lying areas fearing that further increase in the water level could lead to flooding of residential areas and agricultural land.
