Bandipora, Oct 22 (KNS): In a proactive step to address the rising concern of drug abuse among youth, the Bandipora Police conducted a parent-student interaction session at the International Delhi Public School (IDPS) on Wednesday.

The session, themed “Identifying Early Warning Signs and Behavioural Changes in Children: Recognising Possible Narcotic Usage,” aimed to equip parents, teachers, and caregivers with the knowledge to spot early indicators of substance abuse and respond effectively.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) Headquarters Bandipora, Latief Khan (JKPS), urged parents to maintain open communication with their children and be vigilant about changes in behaviour.

Highlighting the critical role of community engagement in tackling drug-related issues, he encouraged reporting any suspicious activity linked to drug trafficking or consumption.

Demonstrating personal commitment, DySP Khan also shared his contact number, assuring parents that he remains accessible around the clock. “Together, we can protect our children from this dangerous path and secure their future,” he emphasized.

Station House Officer (SHO) Bandipora, Akhter Hussain, described drug abuse as a serious societal challenge affecting both moral and physical well-being. He stressed that parents and teachers must actively watch for early signs of addiction and provide timely support to affected youth.

The Chairman of IDPS offered the vote of thanks, commending the Bandipora Police for prioritising youth welfare. He appealed to parents to collaborate closely with law enforcement and report any concerning behavioural changes in their children promptly.

The session saw active participation from both parents and teachers, who welcomed it as a valuable platform for discussion on an urgent social issue. Many praised the Bandipora Police, particularly DySP Khan’s office, for its ongoing community outreach and strong stance against drug networks in the district.

Local resident Mohd Ramzan Bhat noted that the situation regarding drug abuse has improved significantly under DySP Khan’s leadership. “We have observed noticeable progress in controlling the drug menace since he took charge,” he said.
