New Delhi, October 17: REC Power Development and Consultancy Limited (RECPDCL), a wholly owned subsidiary of REC Limited, a Maharatna Central Public Sector Undertaking under the Ministry of Power, on Friday handed over SR WR Power Transmission Limited, a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) of an Inter-State Transmission System (ISTS) project, to M/s Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (PGCIL).

The handover took place after Power Grid Corporation emerged as the successful bidder through the Tariff-Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB) process conducted by RECPDCL, which acted as the Bid Process Coordinator for the project. The transmission project will be developed on a Build, Own, Operate and Transfer (BOOT) basis with an implementation period of 24 months.

The SPV was formally handed over by Shri Saurabh Rastogi, CEO, RECPDCL, to Shri Satyaprakash Dash, Company Secretary, Power Grid Corporation of India Limited, in the presence of senior officials from RECPDCL, PGCIL, and the Central Transmission Utility of India Limited (CTUIL).

The project involves the establishment of the Parli New (Maharashtra)–Bidar (Karnataka) 765 kV Double Circuit Transmission Line, spanning approximately 109 kilometres, to strengthen inter-regional power transfer capability between the Southern and Western regions of the national grid.

REC Limited, the parent company of RECPDCL, is a Maharatna NBFC under the administrative control of the Ministry of Power and is registered with the Reserve Bank of India as a Non-Banking Finance Company (NBFC), Public Financial Institution (PFI) and Infrastructure Financing Company (IFC).

REC plays a pivotal role in financing the entire power infrastructure value chain, including generation, transmission, distribution, renewable energy, and emerging technologies such as electric vehicles, battery storage, pump storage, green hydrogen, and green ammonia. In recent years, REC has also diversified into non-power infrastructure sectors like roads, expressways, metro rail, airports, IT communication, ports, educational institutions, hospitals, and industrial infrastructure projects.

As a key strategic partner in implementing the Government of India’s flagship power sector schemes, REC has served as the nodal agency for programmes such as Pradhan Mantri Sahaj Bijli Har Ghar Yojana (Saubhagya), Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana (DDUGJY), and the National Electricity Fund (NEF). These initiatives have been instrumental in achieving 100% village and household electrification across India.

REC is also the nodal agency for several States and Union Territories under the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS) and has been entrusted with implementing the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, aimed at promoting rooftop solar adoption.

The handover of the SR WR Power Transmission Limited SPV marks yet another milestone in RECPDCL’s commitment to strengthening India’s transmission network and advancing the nation’s power infrastructure through efficient public-private collaboration.
